Built on a Promise to Serve
The Alan Satterwhite Hope Foundation is established by the Water, Sewer & Gas Board of the Town of Wedowee to provide temporary financial assistance for essential utility services—including water, sewer, and natural gas—to qualifying customers and their immediate families who are experiencing financial hardship due to a cancer diagnosis. Who Was Alan Satterwhite?
Alan Satterwhite devoted his entire adult life to serving the Wedowee community. Throughout his career, he faithfully served in several public roles. Alan was employed by the Randolph County Commission as a foreman for the Highway Department for 30 years, and prior to that, he was employed by Wedowee Utilities. His decades of public service reflected a deep commitment to the people and community he called home.
Alan's dedication, integrity, and quiet leadership left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him. He was a dependable friend, a trusted coworker, and someone whose character spoke far louder than words.
In his later years, Alan fought a courageous battle with cancer. Although the disease ultimately claimed his earthly life, it could never diminish the legacy of kindness, service, and friendship he left behind. Alan was a humble and reserved man who never sought recognition or the spotlight — and so there is perhaps no more fitting tribute than to honor his life by quietly serving others in his memory.

Our Partnership with Wedowee Utilities Board
The foundation's closest partner is the Wedowee Utilities Board — the same organization Alan served with such dedication. This partnership allows us to identify families in crisis quickly, coordinate assistance efficiently, and ensure that help reaches people before disconnection occurs.
Together, we have created a seamless bridge between the utility provider and the community safety net — so that a family facing a shutoff notice knows there is someone in their corner.
